Christine B. Foundation Hosts Inaugural Bangor Region Cancer Conference

Conference to Empower the Bangor Region Cancer Community

Bangor, Maine– The Christine B. Foundation will be hosting its inaugural Bangor Region Cancer Conference —The Cancer Journey: From Surviving to Thriving. The focus of the conference is on wellness, mindfulness, and spiritual practices to empower those affected by cancer in the region. The conference will be on Saturday, April 4 from 8:45a-1:30p in Eastport Hall on the University of Maine, Augusta, Bangor Campus. (registration opening 8a)

With more people surviving from cancer than ever before, this conference goes beyond an educational opportunity. It serves as a platform to unite those with a shared lived experience, fostering community, trust, and empowerment,” said Christine B. Foundation Founder + Executive Director, Matt Dexter.

Patients, survivors, caregivers, families, and medical providers are invited to join for inspiring keynotes, informative vendors, and breakout sessions. The conference is free to the public and will include a complimentary lunch.

Cancer is the leading cause of death in the state of Maine, with rates highest in Eastern Maine. Based on American Cancer Society estimates, there will be 8,180 new cases of cancer in the State of Maine through 2020. Many Mainers are met with challenges to overcome the burdens brought on by cancer due to the high poverty rates, rural geographic plain, and transportation distances.

“Whether you are an active cancer patient, survivor, caregiver, or medical provider, we welcome you to this conference!” said Dexter.

Agenda Highlights:

  • Keynote - Thriving Survivor: Chris Parrish, Purple Iris Foundation

  • Sessions on body and exercise through cancer, thriving mindset, connecting with your personal spirituality, healing mindfulness practices, and co-survivor engagement.
