Tuesday Forum - Kathryn James – The Evolution of an Art Gallery: a faith-based story, from artist to gallery owner
Networking from 11:30-12:00 and Meeting starts at noon
Tuesday Forum is one of Maine's premier networking organizations for professional women and this week's presenter is Kathryn James, owner of the Lighthouse Gallery.
Kathryn James finds that creating art helps her to interpret her world and express her belief in the sovereignty of God, the beauty of the world He has created and her joyful hope for the eternal future. Primarily a watercolor artist, she also enjoys acrylic painting on furniture and small decorative pieces. Her artistic and scholarship accreditation includes Bachelor and Master of Arts degrees from the State University of New York, primarily through long distance learning, as well as several years of personal study with watercolorist Paul Elliott in Upstate New York. She is a skilled watercolor artist and has taught classes for many years. She also enjoys Decorative Painting and had been active in the Gulf to Bay Decorative Arts group in Florida for many years. Today, she often uses those skills in her Reborn series, where she takes “gently used” furniture and refurbishes them with an acrylic painted scene or still life – “because everyone deserves a second chance!” Besides her deep faith and love of artwork, Kathryn brings the experience of a non-artistic career to the Lighthouse Gallery. Her thirty years working in various positions for a large corporation has given her knowledge in time management, organizational skills, customer service handling, public relations and corporate planning. She was retired for about fifteen years, painting and teaching out of her home, so that could be called a second career. She now is embarking on her third career by painting and running the Lighthouse Gallery, a career that is very fulfilling and a great deal of fun!
