Job Description – Community Engagement Manager

 

SUMMARY:    Ronald McDonald House Charities® of Maine provides comfort for the families of pediatric patients and supports programs that directly improve the health and well-being of all children.

 

SUPERVISION:     The Community Engagement Manager reports to the Development Director. 

 

STATUS:    This is a 40-hour a week, full-time, exempt salary position as defined by the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).  This is an at-will employment position, which means that Ronald McDonald House Charities of Maine or the employee may terminate employment at any time, with or without cause or without notice.

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for assisting the organization in reaching its overall development and marketing goals to advance annual giving programs and promote the RMHC brand to increase community outreach, as well as other duties that may be assigned.  This position is primarily based at the Ronald McDonald House Bangor with travel for community engagement across Maine and Northern New Hampshire. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Development Director who sets direction, reviews completed work with the employee, and evaluates overall performance in accordance with the mission, policies and procedures set by the organization.  

 

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Administration

  • Maintain a positive work environment and follow the Personnel Handbook / Operations Manual / Administrative Practices and Guidelines.

  • Participate in the development and execution of a community engagement / communications production plan and strategy that advances and supports all aspects of RMHC’s mission and outreach.

  • Support online and offline channels to engage the community, donors, volunteers, and families.

  • Support donor acknowledgement process to ensure donors are promptly and appropriately thanked. 

  • Ensure donor data and notes are consistently updated in Raiser’s Edge NXT donor database. Follow all policies and procedures for RE NXT data entry and participate in recommended trainings.

  • Work to create cost-saving initiatives.

  • Participate in scheduled group and individual staff meetings.

  • Work collaboratively with House staff and volunteers to ensure House needs are met.

  • Participate in RMHC Global webinars, orientations, and trainings.

 

Communications, Marketing & Public Relations

  • Collaborate with Development Director in setting, meeting, and exceeding marketing goals as a part of the organization’s annual development and marketing plan, while continually collecting data and implementing metrics/tools to measure the effectiveness and success rates.

  • Plan and produce annual marketing strategy, collateral and content to promote RMHC Maine programs, campaigns, and events, including but not limited to: annual reports, impact reports, Adopt-a-Room reports, sponsorship opportunities, e-newsletters, flyers, posters, brochures, advertisements, other printed materials, videos, PowerPoint presentations, speeches and other communication tools utilized internally and externally for RMHC Maine and its programs consistent with RMHC Global and local brand guidelines.

  • Manage all social media platforms and maintain a social media calendar to promote and grow awareness of RMHC Maine programs, campaigns, and events.

  • Manage and evaluate content regularly for relevancy to keep a fresh and engaging website.

  • Assist in ensuring corporate partner benefits are met on website and social media. 

  • Support creation of media alerts and press releases.

  • Participate in facilitating crisis management communications.

  • Maintain files/archives of communications pieces, advertisements, and marketing materials, as well as all photo and video files of RMHC guests, events, donors, volunteer impact, activities, etc.

 

Fund Development

  • Work with the Development Director to establish annual financial goals and strategies.

  • Responsible to manage and implement cultivation, stewardship, retention, and expansion for annual giving campaigns, including direct mail appeals and recurring gift program, and provide analysis and reporting for each campaign.

  • Identify and maintain matching gift programs and employee giving programs and identify new opportunities. 

  • Work with the Development Director to identify and steward prospective individual, corporate and organizational donors across the state.

  • Work with the Development and Marketing team to plan and implement donor cultivation and recognition events.

  • Collaborate with the Development and Marketing team to support all fund development efforts, including but not limited to events, third-party events, and RMHC-related fundraising opportunities.

  • Serve as a member of the Development and Marketing Committee and provide support as needed.

 

Community Engagement 

  • Coordinate and actively seek speaking engagements to groups and organizations to grow awareness of our work and ways to make an impact through charitable giving, volunteering, and advocacy. 

  • Represent RMHC Maine at networking events and assist with staffing of local community events and third-party fundraisers as needed.

  • Actively identify new opportunities to maintain and grow our community initiatives: Tap Top program, CLYNK, Project LOVE, regular and special occasion Wish Lists, and any other programs that may be established.

  • Observe McDonald’s® and Ronald McDonald House Charities® trademark, licensing and brand image standards in all promotional materials and publications.

 

Interpersonal

  • Interact professionally and respectfully in a team environment.

  • Maintain a professional relationship with the staff, families, volunteers, stakeholders, and the board. 

  • Be compassionate while maintaining clear boundaries with RMHC guests.

  • Represent RMHC in a professional/appropriate manner when attending sponsored events.

  • Willing to pitch in and help in areas that do not fall directly within your position’s responsibilities.

  • Take responsibility for articulating work needs in a professional manner.

  • Utilize effective problem-solving techniques with the appropriate outcome. 

 

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  1. Two to four years of related experience in the marketing and/or not-for-profit environment.

  2. Proven experience in marketing and communications, development, and/or community outreach, ability to communicate persuasively and to champion the RMHC story, ability to maximize social media platforms.

  3. Self-starter, able to perform and complete tasks independently, and be willing to learn new skills and motivated for continual improvement.

  4. Excellent writing skills and experience supervising the production of materials such as event invitations, programs, and brochures.

  5. Excellent oral communications skills in one-on-one, small group and large group settings.

  6. Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple projects, meet frequent and/or demanding deadlines and be self-disciplined about work prioritization and time management.

  7. Demonstrate creative thinking skills.

  8. Ability to handle sensitive and confidential situations and exercise appropriate discretion.

  9. Proficient computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office products, Raiser’s Edge or similar donor database, open-source software, and web-based applications. Wordpress and Adobe Creative Cloud skills a plus.

 

Working Conditions

Position is full-time with primary hours falling during normal business hours (although overtime work may be required from time to time, at the discretion and with the approval of the Executive Director).  Position works in an office environment that is set in a home-like environment.  Some light housekeeping and light lifting may be required. Ability to access all areas of the House and grounds, including going up and down stairs.  Travel for various activities both local and national may be required.
