Job Description
Position Summary
The Regional Development Coordinator is a primary contact for current and prospective business, industry, and community clients and is responsible for developing and delivering related services. Community & Economic Development integrates economic development with municipal planning and support services. As such, the Coordinator will join the Community & Economic Development team working with other EMDC program staff to enhance program delivery including identification of workforce and financing needs, applications for relevant planning services, and referral to appropriate third-party resources. The Coordinator is responsible for building purposeful and productive relationships with communities, businesses and stakeholders, identifying and facilitating client connections to available resources and opportunities, and providing direct technical assistance where appropriate.
Essential Functions
  • Serves internal and external clients, partners, and the public in an honest, professional, ethical, effective, and efficient manner as a representative of EMDC. Maintains a thorough understanding of EMDC programs and services. Provides referrals and develops opportunities with businesses to utilize multiple services where appropriate.
  • Serves as a member of EMDC’s Economic Opportunity Response Team (EORT) and collaborates with other EMDC programs to provide integrated and comprehensive services to clients.  Assists Program Managers as appropriate in direct service delivery, administration, and reporting for assigned programs. Provides regular and consistent reporting on the status of projects, anticipated problems or opportunities, and other information supporting EMDC and strengthening our services portfolio.
  • Shows exemplary written and verbal communication skills. Is able to speak before groups, facilitate meetings, draft letters, write accurate reports and participate in proposal writing.
  • Delivers technical assistance to clients including, but not limited to, the preparation of cash flow projections and business plans, identification of opportunities and gaps within an industry, and exploration of best practices and areas of innovation.
  • Ensures projects and contracts are completed within a deadline and on budget.  Works with subcontractors, interns, or other parties as needed. Is able to handle multiple tasks and stay focused. Is willing to learn new things, collaborate with others, and take initiative.
  • Collaborates with EMDC staff in performing data analysis identifying trends, emerging opportunities, shifts in industry and markets, employment demographics, and evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Other tasks as assigned by EMDC President & CEO and/or Director of Community & Economic Development.
Job Requirements
  • In alignment with program goals, performs targeted visits to businesses and municipalities in service area. Surveys needs, identifies resources and gaps, provides technical assistance and referrals, and follows up as necessary to ensure good customer service.
  • Develops and shares a working knowledge of relevant State, Federal, and local incentive programs (for example, Pine Tree Development Zones, Community Development Block Grants, Opportunity Zones) and other programs designed to assist the start-up and/or growth of businesses and communities.
  • Maintains strong technology skills including Microsoft Office suite, video conferencing, database management tools, Adobe Creative Cloud, and the use of statistical and analytical software (optional).
  • Has a valid driver’s license and regular access to own vehicle. Exhibits a willingness to attend relevant meetings and events across the State and report back to the Community & Economic Development Team.

Working Conditions
General business hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, though exempt positions will typically require work to be performed outside general business hours. Work is generally performed in an indoor, professional office environment. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or listen, and regularly required to use a keyboard for typing. The employee is often required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee must travel to different locations and must be able to provide own transportation.
