Shredding On Site, WABI, and UMA Bangor Partner for First Annual Bangor Shred-A-Thon
September 21, 2026
BANGOR, ME: Shredding On Site, WABI, and the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) Bangor Campus are partnering to host the first annual Bangor Shred-A-Thon on Friday, September 25. This free community event will give area residents an opportunity to safely dispose of personal documents while learning more about the importance of protecting sensitive information and reducing the risk of identity theft. The Bangor Shred- A-Thon will take place from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Lewiston Hall parking lot at the University of Maine at Augusta Bangor Campus, 65 Texas Ave. in Bangor, with WABI reporting live from the event periodically throughout the day.
Identity thieves can use information found on discarded documents such as old bills, receipts, account statements, credit offers, and other paperwork to commit fraud. Simply throwing these documents in the trash or recycling bin can leave personal information exposed. Shredding documents that are no longer needed is a simple way individuals can help protect that information. “Protecting your personal information doesn’t have to be complicated,” said Sam Froelich, Vice President of Records Management Center & Shredding On Site. “We want this event to make it easy for people to securely get rid of documents they no longer need, but just as importantly, to help people think about the information they have and how they dispose of it.”
During the event, residents can bring personal documents to be securely destroyed on-site by Shredding On Site’s specialized mobile shredding trucks. Documents are shredded immediately, allowing participants to see their materials securely destroyed. All shredded paper collected during the event will be recycled. Staples, paper clips, and binder clips do not need to be removed before shredding.
