Volunteer Tutors Needed

September 28, 2026

Bob Jonah retired after leading employees for years. Now, he gives back as a volunteer tutor.

Gianna was in high school during COVID. Remote learning was difficult and so she went to work instead of school. Later, Gianna asked for help and was paired with Bob.

So far while working with Bob, Gianna has passed 2 out of 5 high school equivalency tests and is learning life lessons on filing taxes, purchasing her first car, and signing leases. “We don’t know what we don’t know,” enthusiastically explains Bob about his role as a tutor/navigator.

Find Purpose While Volunteering

Tutor Training begins October 19th

We need you. Every day, we hear from adults who want to be able to read, write, and/or speak and understand English better. Their requests are urgent. In many ways, their lives depend on our help. After all, better literacy is a pathway to a higher standard of living, access to better information to make decisions, and a sense of belonging--all things we value.

As a tutor, you can help an adult reach these goals, while feeling great about how you invest your time. And if this opportunity isn't right for you, we ask that you PLEASE forward this email to someone for whom it may be a fit.

Tutor training begins in October with an information session on Monday, October 19th from 6 – 8 PM, followed by four additional evening classes during the following weeks. Get more info here: All sessions take place at Eastern Maine Community College. A contribution of $35 helps defray the costs of the textbook and materials. Scholarships are also available.
