Job Description
Maine Discovery Museum (MDM) helps people of all ages to discover the world around them through creative exploration and science. MDM was founded in 2001, becoming the hub for informal science education in Maine and connecting our exhibits and programs directly to Maine. With our programming, we reach rural areas of the state and provide thousands of underserved children and families with rich science content that they cannot get anywhere else in Maine. Our programs include the statewide programs Maine Science Festival, Science Teacher Academy, Maine Invention Convention, as well as our Science Around ME educational outreach.

POSITION PURPOSE
Maine Discovery Museum seeks a skilled and creative Development and Fundraising Officer to support the Executive Director in identifying, cultivating, and stewarding donors and prospects with the goal to increase philanthropic support for the museum. This person will be instrumental in continuing the strong relationships the museum has with current
donors and help to grow future initiatives by researching new opportunities for funding, imagining creative outlets for fundraising, recruiting new donors, and executing meaningful donor stewardship. In addition to the Executive Director, this person will work closely with the museum’s volunteer Board of Directors – Development Committee.

Our ideal candidate will have a bachelor’s degree in marketing, communication, business or similar field and prior experience in a similar role demonstrating a proven track record of successful non-profit fundraising. Strong communication, writing, administrative, customer service skills, and familiarity with CRM nonprofit software, donor databases and other fundraising technologies are required.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Plan, execute and evaluate fundraising campaigns, activities, and events, and managing any volunteers in these areas.
  • Identifying past MDM donors, members, and alumni and building appeals targeting them.
  • Design and implement a stewardship program to foster long-term engagement and investment from donors, including acknowledgment letters, donor recognition events, and regular communication to meet or exceed revenue goals.
  • Staying on top of fundraising trends and the nonprofit community.
  • Using prospect research tools and your donor database to build donor relationships and donations to MDM.
  • Answering donor and staff inquiries in a timely fashion.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
  • Time management and flexibility with job duties.
  • Fundraising software and tools expertise.
  • Experience with volunteer management

SCHEDULE AND WAGE
This is a 20-25 hours/week position starting at $33,500. Weekend and evening hours will be required; schedule will be arranged with the Executive Director.

This position is primarily in-person at the Maine Discovery Museum; some off-site travel will be required and there are occasional opportunities to work remotely.
