Job Description
The Infection Control Preventionist II is trained in hospital epidemiology principles and is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, and reporting of health care acquired infections, education of employees about infection control; and assisting with the development of health system policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet The Joint Commission, CMS federal guidelines, OSHA, State Public Health and Centers for Disease Control (CDC) requirements and Quality agencies. The Infection Control Preventionist II is a subject matter expert in infection prevention and control concerns that provides guidance to stakeholders at both a local and system level.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop (or assist in the development), implement, and evaluate the local organization Infection Prevention Program
  • Develop an annual surveillance plan based on annual risk assessment
  • Utilize epidemiologic principles to conduct surveillance and investigations
  • Identifies areas of potential infection risk and creates processes to minimize risk
  • Compiles data for monthly reporting to various internal local and system committees and programs
  • Coordinates closely with local leadership and system AVP of Infection Prevention on program initiatives
  • Utilizes available resources for consultation when working outside of current knowledge base
  • Develops and monitors an effective local hand hygiene program that complies with the WHO and policy guidelines. Provides monthly reports on hand hygiene compliance
  • Performs environment of care rounding in inpatient and outpatient locations. Provides immediate feedback to all relevant stakeholders and monitors action plans
  • Provides direct oversight to all construction projects related to infection prevention
  • Facilitates compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. Complies with regulatory and mandatory reporting requirements at the local, state, and federal level
  • Stays current on infection prevention and control regulatory and accreditation standards
  • Assists with the review and revision of infection control system policies/procedures to meet changing practices and standards in all organizational settings, including the hospital and outpatient practices using best evidence-based practices
  • Assesses and addresses learning needs of those served
  • Creates educational goals, objectives, and strategies using learning principles and available educational tools and technology
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs and learner outcomes
  • Utilizes Process Improvement methodology as a means for enacting change
  • Defines the scope of the project and utilizes the appropriate PI tools to aid in efficiency, reliability, effectiveness to ensure sustainability of the initiative
  • Ensure that stakeholder needs, and expectations are considered in the development and continuous improvement of process, products, and services
  • Monitor and analyze process and outcome measure to evaluate the effectiveness and sustainability
  • Participate in PI committees, teams, and initiative as indicated
  • Willingly performs additional duties as assigned
Other Information:
  • Health Care Provider CPR certification.
  • Maine driver's license.
  • Certification in Infection Control(CIC preferred).
  • Must have expertise in data collection and analysis, report writing and data presentation.
  • Must be familiar with Electronic Health Records (EMR)Cerner preferred.
  • 5 years relevant experience in nursing, public health, epidemiology, clinical laboratory science, medical terminology, or related field.
  • 3 years relevant experience in the field of Infection Prevention.
 
Education
  • Required bachelor's degree in health science, healthcare delivery, public health, laboratory science, or related field preferred. In lieu of bachelor's degree, associate's degree and minimum of four years' experience required.
